AIM away messages

Away messages have become the downfall of IM.

When they first started, there was no notification so people would message you and get an auto-reply indicating that you were away. Eventually, there became a status flag associated with it and people could tell you were away.

Now, they have it so you can not only see someone is away but read their away message too without ever talking to them. People totally abuse the away message using it as a virtual billboard. I see people saying stupid things like "here". Why would you put up an away message stating that you are in fact not away but there?

To make it worse, there is a new feature in AIM where you can message people while still having your away message up. So you are away but still there. It is like you are living a giant lie.

Call me old-fashioned but I liked it best when having an away message up meant you actually were away.

I think you still need another layer of tin foil around your head.

Putting up an away message while your still behind the keyboard is no different than someone screening phone calls with an answering machine.

This is a perfect example. Somebody call the hyperbole police. Every thread???

What about this one, this one, or this one. There are countless others where I have not replied to you. I have only recently become aware of your lack of trustworthiness.

Ok, I don't see how saying "Pppppowerbook", the name of the Apple laptop scam in case you've been under a rock for 4 years, "Why helo thar!" in a thread full of people making lame responses, or posting the confused gif makes me less trustworthy...

Your failure to follow a written conversation has made me even less enamored with you. I presented those links as evidence that I have not actually replied to you "everytime" you reply in a thread not for the content.

Is it really that bad?

I guess I agree with you, but you can always call the person.

What I hate more is when you leave a message or call someone and they don't call or message you back.

Dude man, stop being a drama queen.

Yeah, that was a bit overboard. Sometimes I get a bit carried away when I am writing.

But it is true. My mother once told me she was away, but she was in the kitchen talking to someone.... ****** away messages
