AIM and sending files

i am running the latest version of aim 5.9.3 something

and i have ad-hack 4.14 installed

if i try to make a direct connection with some one or send them a file by going to file> send file in the IM window, it fails everytime

on the other hand, if that same person initiates the direct connection with me or try's to send ME a file it works like a charm

its very annoying and i've been trying to figure it out for the past few weeks

here is one error message "Failed to establish secure file transfer with "********" because he or she is not a secure user."

some other things i have are
-trend micro software firewall (aim has been permited and i even set up a port labeled aim file transfers that allows TCP and UDP traffic in and out

i have put in that same port into aim to use for the file transfers

- i have a netgear wireless router with a "firewall" on it

there i have again put AIM on the port forward table with the correct port number of 5190 and also make an entry for aim file transfers with the same port as my software fire wall

- i have tried disabling both firewalls and still no luck

- i have tried reinstalling AIM numbers of times with again, no luck

im going to uninstall just the ad-hack and see if this fixes the problem edit- didn't work

does anyone else have any other ideas?

i have

http, ftp, aim, VOIP and a custom one are all open
 
hmmm... that's weird.

however -- it could be that the people on the other end are behind a firewall. When they try to connect to you, it works fine -- because you've opened up your firewall correctly. When you try to connect to them, it fails, because they f-ed up their own computer. Try connecting to someone who's not behind a firewall (or whom you know is capable on computers)

perhaps, but this has happened with 4 people

one of which is going to school for computer engineering

but i guess most routers work fine out of the box and maybe he didn't bother setting his up

i'll try again, thanks
