AIM account in pidgin ubuntu

I have always had an AIM account. Using pidgin in ubuntu I can't find a preference that turns off the stupid grey pop-up notifications like "so-and-so is online" I'm trying to get my work done and can't seem to turn them off, just not my thing.

Maybe it's not pidgin but another ubuntu plugin, like a network popup. It is there same thing in the morning telling me my ethernet is disconnected, before it reconnects.

In pidgin... is sound present with "stupid grey pop-up notifications"?
If so, then try to turn off
Preferences=>Sound=>Sound Events=>Buddy logs in
or maybe it is really some plug-in :hmm:

I know what you talking about. I installed UNR on my new netbook and its really annoying. The popup is not in the application but on the gnome desktop. Its a black semi-transparent box that pops up for system notifications and seems to also be integrated into software like pidgin. It will even display message that I have coming in when pidigin is minimized.
