I knew Asus would be the company to go Richland for netbooks. I guess I know who will get my business.

I'm really looking forward to AMD adding eDRAM to their APUs. GDDR5 or DDR4 I don't care which I just want it.

It's a damn shame that XDR2 hasn't seen the light of day. A few gigs of XDR2 paired with an AMD APU would have been sick. But I can understand why after Rambus managed to piss off everyone.

It means that at some point, AMD are bringing out chips with support for GDDR5 memory. This is the kind of very fast memory which is used in graphics cards, as graphics parts need a lot of memory bandwidth. (This is also the memory used in the PS4.) Hopefully, it means that the next generation of AMD APUs should have even faster graphics parts.

The graphics part would, but even with 8 cores, wouldn't the CPU need to be a lot faster for running windows and all the productivity apps one uses a real PC for?

Potentially. Lots of existing apps would certainly prefer stronger single threaded performance. Of course, this might be for Kaveri- 4 Steamroller cores + GDDR5 + PS4-level graphics would make for a very nice chip. (Wishful thinking, of course.)
