Starting to see a lot more posts that look to be AI generated responses. They typically are new accounts, often respond to some older thread, never add anything new to the discussion, and rarely return to posts anything else. I wonder if they are using this tactic to later add spam to these posts. Here's one that was posted earlier today: https://forums.anandtech.com/thread...-most-of-the-am5-boards.2618613/post-41220904

So should we report posts like this or this just something we are going to see from here on out? They technically aren't breaking any forum rules right?

I've also been thinking about this subject. I wish there was a forum rule where you need to disclose if you use AI to reply. It would be nice to know if someone is using AI to edit or enhance a post you wrote, or if you use AI for most or all of your reply. Is there such a thing as AI detection for forums?

If it is a new account, or new "enough" and has only being making the AI-like posts, I report it.

If on the other hand it is an existing member that simply used AI to generate a helpful reply, don't see the problem there. I mean a member that's been around a while, not the age old tactic of a spammer making very few seemingly relevant posts then proceeding to sneak in their spam URL in subsequent posts. A link to a well regarded reference is one thing. A self-promotion link to a blog is another.

Forum accounts are for real, live, people. ;)

:/ The future of humanity is starting to look unpredictable with the recent advances of AI. Idiots and trolls have already started using AI to spam on forums and chat apps. Wonder what will happen when androids will become available to the general public.

Been seeing a lot of these lately. Is it time to disable new account creation?

How does not publishing articles impact participation in a forum? I don't see it.
It's a dead site, revenue declines but costs remain the same. What utility remains is as an archive and it'd be better unlittered by bots.
Check the latest members. 10 bots, 1 real person who needs support but would be better helped elsewhere and 1 boomer who forgot his account.

Dead? Not at all, there is a lot of traffic.

You seem to ignore reality? I maintain sites that are entirely ad and affiliate supported and are profitable.

Yes bots need to be kept at a minimum, that's just part of modern website forum administration. Shut down the whole internet forum culture because of bots? No. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave. Welcome to hotel California, such a lovely place. ;)

No, it wouldn't lose anything worthwhile. Most new members are spam bots. Open registration creates more work for no gain.
I suspect that you just don't understand how the internet works.

It is a constant system of checks and balances, but as long as there is a profit to be made, it works.

Plus you are advocating censorship aka nazi control, which stinks.

If you can't keep up with the reality of modern internet forum moderation, welcome to the club, it IS a headache, but it is worth the bother because keeping communications working is what makes us efficient humans and I will always work to further that, despite your seemingly ignorant nonsense.

Do you really have any stake in this, or are you just a whining fool? Have you had an opportunity to oversee any site that has very high traffic and influence? I do. Opinions matter less than dollars, and I state that with some reservation and sadness that this is reality but you adapt and move on. The money has to support the forums, the freedom of speech.

Nope, I'm advocating saving everyone time. The vast majority of new members are bots. Close registration and we have only the stolen accounts to worry about.

There's maybe 10 valuable new members since the main site stopped publishing. No great loss.

This is a filtering problem and it would be ridiculous to stop accepting new members due to that. Total nonsense fail.

The idea is so absurd that I wonder if you need to see a psychiatrist.

If you can't deal with "the internet", then stay off it. :)

If your panties are just in a knot about this forum, let me show you the door and don't let it hit your arse on the way out.

If you don't like the people you are surrounding yourself with, by all means, move on.

YOU ARE HERE.
