I spent all day yersterday setting up my network with 2 PC's connected to a Netgear RT314 router. It was all working good until (and don't ask my why) I decided to upgrade the firmware on the router.

After I upgraded the firmware I must have fvcked up a setting because now I can't connect to my router:|

I tried through the browser, and no luck. I tried through telnet, and no luck.

I might have inadvertantly changed some of the filter settings because I was in that menu:eek:

Anyway how do I gain access to my router.

Thanks,
Pyxis

well I'm not too familiar with the Netgear routers...but check and see if there is a reset buttion on it. If there is...hold it down for 15 seconds and it'll reset the CMOS of the router. If not....see if you can get a hold of the old firmware...and you can upgrade it through the TFTP server. Now if there is no reset....you can call Netgear...and get the router reset coding from them that you can use for the TFTP server. They should send you instructions on how to do it. I have dealt with the OEM Manufacture for Netgear....so if they set it up the same way....then that's how you will go about it. And if none of this works...you messed up your router...you might have restarted when you weren't suppose to? Unplugged it? Good luck to you

Actually the firmware update didn't mess it up, I did. I went into the menu looking at some of the new options, and I think I accidently changed some of my filter settings.

I think that I put filter #3 in the lan filter menu. After I did that is when I couldn't connect anymore.

If I remember correctly that filter blocks http, ftp, and telnet.

no matter how much you messed the settings up, you should still be able to console in and fix everything that way.

I tried connecting through both pc's and nadda. I'll have to troubleshoot this later though (I have to write my speech for class tomorrow:()

Any suggestions as to how to fix this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

He means to connect to the console port on the router using a serial cable and a serial port on your computer.

BTW how would you connect to the router then. Do you just telnet to the router like you would normally do?

Sorry but I'm a newbie when it comes to networking:eek:

Connect up the cables and then you use some terminal emulation program (i.e. Hyperterminal). Set it to 9600, 8, N, 1. And away you go.
