Don't get me wrong, it is bad ass looking, just if it is poisonious, then some recautions should be taken ya know.

It's a female Argiope aurantia. Yes, they belong to the orb weaver family. All spiders are poisonous, that's how their digestive system works. They inject venom into their prey, which liquifies their inner tissues, and then the spider sucks the juices out. The bite of this spider is no worse than a bee sting for a human, but you will never, ever be bitten by any Argiope unless you pick up the spider and hold it against your skin because they never leave their webs. Leave it alone and it will stay there all summer eating insects for you.

Garden Spider

I have at least two of them in my yard right now and love them. I think their markings are beautiful. And they get quite large as the summer turns to fall, but they are harmless.

Alright... seems banana spider are members of a different orbweaver family: Tetragnathidae (long jawed orbweavers), genus: Nephila and Yellow Garden Spiders are members of Araneidae (orbweavers), genus: Argiope aurantia and the pics of the OP are the latter...
Thanks for the correction... 🙂
