I turn on my computer this morning, and the partition that held my XP install is completely empty. I have no idea how this happened...it was working fine last night. There wasn't very much important data on it, but I dont understand how it just disappereard...my other partitions on that drive and other hard drive are both fine. The new G: (where XP used to be) is now an empty 5 gigs...damn

Similar, but differant:

I installed XP and the partition info on a *full* 80GB drive disappeared. Man was I hot!

So, I feel your pain!

That happened to me after I installed a patch (XP security patch) a while back, the partition was there, couldn't see it though. I tried using it as a slave with my 98 OS and I could see every partition but that one, perhaps because of NTFS...

The A-hole tech support at MS said "didn't you read the EULA, that you should back everything up first?" It was their patch for their operating system, for a security hole that they left in it (XPpro) and that they said that I NEEDED.

I had to re-install the entire XP, erased all my favorites etc. Thank God for backup disks, whew...

EDIT: forgot to mention that when I booted after the patch it could not find an OS

So you have one of those cheaped out pre-built computers that have every possible corners cut?

Was it your recovery partition or your system drive.. just making sure..

All these problems can be remedied with the purchase of XPSE which will be available at a nerd store near you for the paltry price of 199.99.

d00d I had it much worse. W32H.Whiter.Trojan completely wiped out my hard drive and truncated each single files into 33byte garbage making it impossible to recover files without paying over $1000 to a data recovery service. It was so much damage that my main computer is still out of service after over a month and I'm still on my makeshift machine.

Viruses is for more than 1 actual virus. Aids and smallpox are viruses. If you're talking about someone who has one or the other, they have alot of virii in their body. eg. "whoa dude check out all the virii in this guy's blood, that's messed up"
