Well just went thru hell trying to fix my comp, got it up and running, now to reformat...I made a windows 98 SE bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com, put it in and restarted, got into A:/ and typed fdisk, deleted partition, made a new one, made maximum size, then restart again, went back to A:/....................ok now how do I install a new OS? I put in my windows XP Pro CD, typed E:, then setup, it says ''CDR101: Not ready reading drive E''....so went into BIOS, changed boot order to boot from CD first, now it says ''No Operating System'' or ''This cannot be run in dos''........help? 🙁

Edit: I just went into Set Active Parition

Current fixed disk drive: 1

Parition
C:1

Status: A

Type: Pri DOS

Volume label:

Mbytes: 57239

System: Unknown

Usage: 100%

...............shudnt it say NTFS for system? or fat32? how do i change this?

Just boot from the WinXP CD and go from there. There are options to format and partition your drive during the install process.

The 98 disk cannot format in NTFS. I would just go back and delete the partition you made, and then let XP partition and format the drive in NTFS during the install. If you just use an unpartitioned drive, XP will ask you about partitioning and formatting the drive.

Yes, there's no need to use a boot disk for XP.

Also, be sure your slipstream SP2 on your setup CD prior to installing XP.

ok so just put the windows XP Pro-SP1 CD into the drive and restart? and change order to boot from CD?
kk...ill try that...it didnt work out good b4 but meh

BIOS should have an option to boot from the CD before the HD. Put the XP CD in the drive (don't use a floppy boot disk) and it will say "Press any key to boot from CD..." Do this and go through the on screen prompts.
