the other day i was burning 80 minute audio cds with my plex and i got an error saying power calibration error. i looke din the help file and it said this was a really bad hardware error! eeech. then i noticed nero was still set to thinking i was burning onto a 74 minute cd... which means the program thought it was overburning by 6 minutes (it wasnt tho, since the cd can take that much) when i changed it to 80 minutes it burns almost 100% correctly but i get an error when the cd creation reaches like 99.9%

i wonder if its because the scsi drive i use to burn off of is going bad or something. i never had probs when burning from ide. i'm going to have to write down the error message if it happens again. i cant imaigne this 8x certified media cant burn at 12x. i had crappy 4x buring fine and this 8x cert cant do it? something of note: these cds are imation, but everyone ive talked to said plex burns anything, and all my experience tells me the same.

anyone have similar expereince/ advice?

i said in the first post... i'm using imation brand.

i burnt at 12x only to get a error about half way through (i think the drive wasnt being fed info fast enough. wasnt a buffer underrrun, but something similar) when i moved to 10x i got the power calibration error, and when i brought it to 8x it burned fine.

to me that points to the media, but everyone i talk to says plex burns anything. i need to burn a few more to try it out.

my plextor 8/20 won't burn imation 8x certified @8x.... gives me a power calibration error as well...

here's how adaptec explains it..

CD error - power calibration area error
Reasons for receiving this message:
The optimum power calibration area is a special area near the center of the recordable CD. Before writing a track on a CD, the CD-Recorder must adjust the amount of power applied to the writing laser for the optimum level for the mounted CD. The optimum calibration area is reserved for this purpose. If this area becomes full, the CD-Recorder can't write to the CD.

The power calibration failed, possibly because a defective CD was mounted or an internal hardware malfunction occurred in the CD-Recorder.

What to do:
Insert a blank CD and repeat the CD creation process. If the error persists, contact the CD-Recorder manufacturer for more information.

Try a different brand of CD-R media.

I didn't see imation in your first post..

I'm using a 50 Spindle of 8x Imations 74minutes perfectly at 12x.
