Ahhhh this microsoft 3000 comfort mouse is driving me mad

Had to send back my G5 since it broke so my temp mouse is a microsoft 3000 comfort mouse. There's something wrong with the middle click. I use middle click all the time in firefox to open stuff in new tabs, but the middle click on this thing sucks and it only seems to work 10% of the time. I imagine this is a pretty popular mouse and people have found a trick to fix this problem. Can anyone help me out?
 
why are 70% of middle mouse buttons sucktastic? I tried my old MX15 mouse but the left clicker sucked...I just can't find a good working mouse anywhere 😛
