I just got my new ECS D6VAA dual socket 370 mobo in the mail yesterday, and today i assembled it as part of a system. When i boot it up, it says "bios rom checksum error, please instert system disk." This frightens me. ECS didnt give me any kind of boot disk, just a cd, and the error report asks for a floppy/ Does this mean my bios is corrupt from the factory?? Or can i somehow flash it to a working bios?? I have tried resetting the cmos, but to no avail. Can anybody help me out with this?? im really bummed/

EDIT: yeah guys, i tried that but it doesnt work. the only option i have once i put in the disk is to hit enter, the dos prompt doesnt come up or anything. i cant get into the bios either, presumably cause it is corrupt. When i insert a floppy with the bios and the flash utility and hit enter, the same message appears. It seems i am screwed.

EDIT 2: it seems the correct error message is "bios rom checksum error"

EDIT 3: tried new battery, didnt help

Check their webiste and see if you can DL a flash program to run off a floppy. Then use that. That assumes you have access to another comp but since you are posting here I would imagine you do 🙂

You probably just have to go into the BIOS and set the first boot device as your CD drive and you should be fine. Also, definitely try to flash the BIOS to it's latest version. Go on someone else's computer and put the necessary files on a disk. Just goto ECS's webpage and download the latest BIOS and flashing utility.

Also check the bios jumper, that message usually comes on when the jumper is set in the wrong position. Good luck

This might not work but give it a try...... GO TO THE BIOS SCREEN and then reset the bios with default configs.....and save and exit and it will restart.....

try this

g'luck.

Thanks.

Yup, agreed. And you've tried simply resetting the CMOS via the jumper right?

Yes, i did reset the cmos with the jumper, and that had no effect. I cant get into the bios either. The first thing the screen shows is that error message, except for like "award bios" or somthing like that at the top. I cant actually enter it and change any settings or anything.

Looks like its prolly not somthing i can fix myself . . . .
