After sleeping in the same freakin' mattress since I was 4 years old (a twin sized Simmons), I decided that my 6'3 fatass needed something a little bigger. I shopped around at tonnes of mattress places, looked up a lot of info online, and bought one. A local Sealy store had a posturpedic model for sale, they wanted $899 for an extra firm queen sized set (they called it the "Posturpedic Dogwood"). I shopped around at some stores that carry Sealys and the prices were generally the same, well, until I went to my local Military Base Exchange...............they had the exact same model set for only $399 (although, it had a different name, just called the Posturpedic Firm)!!! :Q OVER HALF THE PRICE, AND I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY ANY TAXES!!! Just goes to prove that matress markups are INSANE :p

Things that you should know:

The price is ALWAYS negotiable, ALWAYS.

The matress companies will not give each different matress a specific name (on their websites, they will only say that the mattresses only belong to a certain collection of matresses (Posturepedic, Beautyrest, etc), so that each mattress store can make up their own specific model name and advertize that they will beat ANYONE'S price on the same model. It's a money making tactic........

Don't be afraid to lay all over the matresses, or hell, even stand on them. It's sounds weird, but doing it will help you pick the best one.

Now, off to enjoy my first good night sleep in a LONG time :)

Dude, I've been sleeping on the same mattress since I was a kid as well. I think my mattress makes my back hurt and most of the time I wake up more tired than when I went to sleep. I may go look for one in the near future as well.

Dude - just sit on some new ones - you'll wonder why you didn't buy one sooner.

I want a new bed/mattress, but the prices for them are insane. You can build a fricking LCD TV and sell it for $500 and turn a profit, but some springs, fabric and foam costs $900?
