I think $10 a head is pretty decent although most retail store delivery men are not allowed to accept tips.

WTF? You paid $50 for delivery and you think you need to tip the delivery drivers? No fucking way. They're getting paid for the delivery and do not make the sub-standard $2.13/hr wage for tippable employees. No tip required.

I dont need to tip anybody, it's just they have to move it a good distance also up a small flight of stairs.

I'd go with $20 myself ... and tipping isn't required, but it is a nice thing to do.

Most retail guys aren't allowed to accept tips, however they will because theres no supervision. When I was working retail and moved something heavy to someones car, I would never turn down a few dollars.

delivery is different than moving the couch where you want it

Not if delivery is specified as INTO your residence instead of just on the sidewalk outside. Now if you're like many women; put it here...no, wait, let's try it over there...no wait, that's not good, how about over here...nope, that's not it either...let's put it back in the original place...THEN a large tip is in order, but just delivering a sofa you paid a delivery charge for doesn't earn a tip.

The delivery charge goes to the company and not the front line. That's the whole basis behind tipping.

 Exactly. How many of us get a tip for doing our job...for which we receive a regular paycheck? While delivery drivers don't get rich doing their job, most are relatively well paid and as such, don't need to be tipped.
Tipping is nuts in this country. People want to tip their mailman, delivery drivers (other than food deliverers) etc. Next thing, cops, firemen, UPS/FedEx drivers will be next.

Exactly. Watch the beginning of Reservoir Dogs. I can load a customer 50-90lb bags by hand and get nothing while someone that brings you a couple plates get a nice tip. What's the difference between me and the waitress???

what's that supposed to mean? like too little tip or too much?

It means people are still paying tips to people who don't normally get tips. So the economy isn't as bad as people are saying as long as people can afford to tip like this.

Too late, I already do. I never got tipped in the steelmill..(well...not money), but I just feel they should know I appreciate their service. I dunno.
And it's not just the money thing, they'd probably appreciate the cards/cold & hot drinks/popsicles without it. I dunno...it's just another way to say "Thanks".

I never tipped a Cop or Fireman.....but UPS/FedEX....to late again.
