I'm 24. I have a job, it's not too bad just kind of mindless. It's in compliance, doing work on Institutional (read very large sums of money) accounts. The job isn't bad, it's just annoying, ya know. I've been contemplating going into teaching high school (I have student taught, been a camp counselor, etc. with the worst of the worst kids, so I have some idea on the topic) math/business, where i'd likely start at ~48k. I make 70k now.

At this point my boss gives me a pep talk and tells me that in one year 100k is definitely an option if I play my cards the way I have been.

Can't beat a couple of months off every year.. I'm going to teach when I get out of school, although only with a BA and a TEFL certification. Maybe I'll eventually get what I need to do it in the U.S., too. Sounds like a fun job.

I probably will earn the 100k for a few years, save/invest big time, get my MBA, then "retire" around 30 to teach...

As most of us know teaching is NOT easy money nor is it easy. My ex was a primary teacher and her summers were spent taking classes for manditory continuing ed (paid out of her pocket), fine tuning the curriculum (projects funder by her...er us), and more often than not 12 hour days.

But

Very very rewarding.

my dad "retired" to teach this past year (57). he works a ton, but far less than he did at his job as a systems analyst... the money is like 1/3-1/4 his salary, but he's done paying for his kids... and he always enjoyed teaching (taught in NYC public schools in the 70s, then adjuncted in different colleges as long as i can remember).

I thought you were talking me and the fact that i am going to have sex with a chubby chic tonight. Not my thing, but its been a while...does that make me a whore?

Don't see a problem with chubby chicks.
Just not whales. Save the whales, please.

Dude. I went to the U of A for a year, then stopped going. Dropped out. I did nothing with my life about 2.5 years then went back to school to become a car technician. I was looking forward to it because I wouldnt be stuck behind a desk, wouldnt be part of the rat race to and from work and work on cool and different things each day.

Yeah, so now I work at Lexus as a tech and I make 24K a year. I owe ~22K in loans for school and I hate my job. the passion I had for cars? Gone. Everything fun I ever wanted to do working on cars... gone. And I will barely make 30K a year in a year or two.

you bet your ass you have a sweet deal going. Sack it up and ENJOT THE SIX FIGURE INCOME.

That being said, Im fvckin going back to REAL school.

..teaching's a dead end. Who want's to work in a cell phone hiphop fashion show where everybody's convinced they already know it all.

Sexually, yes, I've been a whore at times. Jobwise, no, I never compromise. Since I have no interest in money, careers, power, social stigmas, etc it's not a big deal to me.

Whores have sex for money. The OP just works an unsatisfying job.

"Doing it for the money" doesn't make you a whore. In my current job, I've been doing it for the money for a few years now. I'm not a whore for it. I just couldn't find anything that paid more (or close) until recently. That in combination with a few other things has given me the opportunity to do something I've wanted to do for a long time.

So I say stick with it until you just can't stand it anymore. Pack away the money and look for something else that works for you.
