Year in and year out, us Kentucky Wildcat fans typically start looking forward to basketball season about this time of year. Our football team will typically be headed towards the bottom of the SEC East. Atleast until last year, when we actually surprised many by beating Clemson in a bowl game (myself included).
Now, as luck would have it, we have a damned good football team, and somehow have gotten ourselves ranked 8th in the nation in both major polls. Our quarterback is ranked in the top 3 or 5 in most all Heisman watch lists, and the fanbase as a whole aren't scared of going into yearly clobberings with the likes of Florida, LSU, and others. Hell, we're even in sole possession of first place in the SEC east, a truly odd feeling being since it's October.
I guess one could argue that we haven't faced that stiff of a challenge, although both Louisville and Arkansas were ranked at one time. The next 3 weeks will be telling, with games at No. 11 South Carolina on Thursday night, then LSU and Florida at home. I always enjoyed college football as a whole, but never as a fan with their team in the mix of things, and being talked about by all the major sports outlets.
I don't expect this awesome season to carry into next year, so I'm going to eat it up while it's going on. Go Wildcats!
