Hmm, I just got back from my Nissan dealership where they were doing some warranty work on my rear drums - the make a "thunk - thunk - thunk - thunk - thunk" noise when coming to a stop. They were warped when I bought the car last november, so they originally rotated them for me. A week after that the sound was back, so I bought new drums and they installed them for free. Everythings been fine up until about 3 months ago when the "thunk" sound returned.

So, the dealership roteted them again today for free, but the Service advisor said "Oh yea, and BTW - your right rear rim is warped". He didn't say how much, and the mechanic that worked on my vehicle was already gone for the day... The mechnic says that the warped rim could probably cause the warped drum - but I don't understand why both drums on each side of the vehicle would be warped from one rim, not to mention I started hearing the sound before I bought them. Thee switched the warped rim with my right front tire.

They tried getting me to buy a whole new rim, but I said no thanks. I bought 4 rims + tires from a private seller for the prive that Nissan wants for 1 rim.... Not to mention that my wheels were custom painted, so getting a replacement would mean that I'd probably have to repaint all fo the rims to match :frown: I've been driving around for about two months and I haven't noticed a problem. The only thing that I can think of is that either the rim has been warped since I bought it, or somehow I warped it a few days ago when I brushed up against a curb..........

I don't notice any vibration at all when driving. Would there be any problem with driving on the rim, any side effects to my rotors/brakes, etc? I really don't want to go through the trouble of replacing/repainting my rims......

Bah - I fixed it :p

Also, the warped rim does not cause the tire to looze pressure, nor have I noticed any uneven wearing on the tread......

:D I don't see much of a problem if you don't feel it. I'd keep an eye on strange tire wear though...

Have a tire store check to see if it's leaking air or if the tire bead is in danger of unseating, or if there appears to be any cracking in the rim itself. If everything checks out there, just have the rim rebalanced and you should be good to go. Here in the San Jose, CA area, there's a shop in Campbell called Wheel Techniques that'll fix bent/damaged alloy rims, and there are also shops (Acker Wheel, for one, 1-800-USEDRIM for another) where you can buy perfectly good OEM rims used for considerably cheaper than dealer prices.

Cool - thanks for the info! I'll look for local places to get the rim fixed - I just don't want to go through the hassel of repainting my rims if I have to replace it..... :(
