AHHH!!! Need help with Win2K installation -- please!

Ok, I'm pulling my hair out trying to install Win2K onto a clean hard disk. Sounds easy, right? Wrong.

I keep running into "File Corrupt" errors on the bootdisks, but scans of the disks come up with no errors (and the errors don't repeat -- yes, I've also tried different disks). Then, if they do complete the initial installation process, I run into an "Unknown Hard Error" which halts the installation, prompting me to start at the beginning.

Two questions: Any idea what's going on here? Is there any EASY way to install this OS without using those damnable diskettes (booting from the CD doesn't work either -- hangs the computer)?

Boot off the cdrom itself causes errors then there's an other problem somewhere.

Recheck your ide cables.
 
try a bootdisk from bootdisk.com ....i had problems installing 2k and i used athe bootdisk from there and i got it to work. (it was a different problem)

I would really try booting off the CD if possible - took me like 10 different floppies and 4 hours to get the bootdisk images copied without corruption!! I tell you its a pain in the ass! It only lets you copy all 4 disks at the same time, so if one disk is corrupted YOU GOTTA REDO ALL 4!! Huge waste of time, ugh now I just use the bootable CD.
 
when i installed it i booted off a Win98 bootdisk, then i popped in another disk with smartdrive (smartdrv.exe, or smartdrv.sys) on it, turned on smartdrive, and the win98 disk recognizes your cdrom, then you go: X:\i386\winnt.exe
(replace x with drive number of your cd-rom)

remember to run smartrive or the file transfer will be s-l-o-w.
 
I am going to try the bootdisks off of that site posted, but otherwise I think I'm screwed. I CANNOT get the CD to boot -- it just hangs and requires a hard reboot. :| I have the feeling that there's something wrong with the motherboard because there was some intermittant problems with the USB connection. The signal was spotty at times which made the mouse freak out -- I watched the optical mouse light blink on and off rapidly. However, I can't pin down the problem, and I couldn't find any errors reported.

The crappy thing is that I am going to junk this system in April because we're moving overseas and only taking one system. I don't want to have to replace the motherboard to only use it for three and a half months!
