K this problem has got me stumped.

This is what is going on with one of the computers I am building.

I am building a computer for some family friends and this is the components I am using: Aopen AK73 Pro (NOT A) motherboard, 1GHz Duron CPU (Morgan core), Geforce 2 MX400 /w 64 megs, some old 12.1 GB Quantum Bigfoot Harddrive.

Now when booting up it freezes at the video bios. Right after its done. It just hangs there with a cursor. Now the strange thing is that the background is orange in the video bios. It will NOT load to the primary CMOS. Now please dont tell me that the video card and/or motherboard is fried.

Any suggestions on what I can do!!??

If it freezes at the video bios, it means the POSTs is not accomplished yet. So most likely the BIOS is not set properly. Try removing everything except for the video card, a stick of RAM, CPU and HSF and then clear the CMOS. Reboot and you should at least see the POST. Meaning the BIOS loaded into memory. If the same problem exist, check the CMOS jumpers they maybe in the clear position.

I'll try that. I checked the AOpen FTP and it looks like they got bios version 1.16 released on their FTP, released today. Maybe this also helps detecting the morgan based CPU. I'll try resetting the CMOS and maybe also switching out the CPU with a slower Duron and see if it boots up.

Thanks guys!

Well i got no step further. Well Dr. Voice is reporting the following: Your AGP may have a problem. Did it once when the video bios was a normal color but it was still stuck at it. Also the first V of NVIDIA wasn't showing up and the N was blue. I am starting to suspect that I have a bad video card. I'll see what I can do about it... but if its fried its fried.

Ok i tried the video card in a system that is known to work. Guess what? It boots perfectly fine. So now I am planning to put a Duron 750 in the computer... and update the damn bios lol (thank god that I found it last night before any of the sites reported it such as electic news).

If that doesn't work what other possible errors could this be?

Edit:
(Glad that it isn't roasted!! 🙂)

Now that the vid problem is gone, a new problem has arose. This one not as huge as the first one (Thank god!). Well everytime I bootup the BIOS reports a BIOS Checksum Error. Any ideas on how to get rid of this one??
