Ok, I just have a DSL line, the DSL modem goes straight to my Ethernet card, no router/hub/firewall, etc.

Just starting today I get this system error every minute. This is what my log says in Event Viewer.

"Your computer has detected that the IP address 192.168.0.131 for the Network Card with network address 00045a5..... is already in use on the network. Your computer will automatically attempt to obtain a different address."

What does this mean? I tried doing a ipconfig /renew in the command prompt (running Windows XP Pro..legally I might add) and got the error message...

"An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: The DHCP client has obtained an IP address that is already in use on the network. The local interface will be disable until the DHCP client can obtain a new address."

If someone could please tell me what happened and how to fix it. I'd be very appreciative...Thanks!

It could be that there are too many users logon at the same time therefore you are being kick off until an address is release & become available to you.

The best thing you can do is write down your IP, MAC address, modem & account number, then give your ISP a call.
