bah, cry me a river.:p I had a signals and systems class last semester where we had assignments every two weeks that regularly broke into the 20+ pages double-sided. Mostly the assignments were a bunch of ridiculously useless and long Fourier and Laplace transforms with a few DE's thrown in for good measure. They only corrected one problem per assignment out of 6 or 7 but you had to do it all because they wouldn't say which one in advance.

Yeah, we used Griffiths for my undergrad class too. Jackson is a graduate text.

Nope, you only have 9 hours of classes, but the homework takes more time than undergrad does. Plus you have to either teach or do research 20 hours/week (or some combination of teaching/research).
