got it fixed!

to shut off the water I had to get a pair of vise grips....remove the handle, and twist directly on the stem.
thank God today was my dad's day off from work. I called him up this AM, we went to home depot found a new 50 gal heater (old one was 30 gal) .90 efficency rating it was about $180, add a few fittings some tools and tax, I was out the door for 250.00

we drained the old one, but it still weighed a ton when the water stopped flowing...we got it outside and dumped it on it's side and the water started pouring out of the top! the thing was half full of water still that's how much rust and sediment was in there!

anyways I was suprised at how easy it was to replace....we cut the pipes, put to pressure fittings on, the old tubing to the relief valve fit, we put to stainless flex lines in and hooked the power back up...voila!!

anyone know about efficency ratings? I was looking at 2 water heaters, both GE, both with 6 yr warranty's, one was 40 gallon, with a .92 rating and the one I got was 50 gallons with a .90 rating.
