no sledgehammer, and no digital clock (haven't seen those wall hanging large digital clock for cheap)

get a clock with a sweep second hand, or a less verbose movement at least.

Yep, I have an analog clock next to me when I'm sleeping and I thought it was annoying, but later on I got used to it and it makes me fall fast asleep now.

The ticking from a clock keeps you up? Damn. That must suck.

Clearly, the only solution tot his problem is to cut your ears off.

They must make silent clocks. Although, I use digital so I'm not much help. I cannot stand hearing TICK...TICK...TICK...TICK

Only if the door is closed, you have a north facing window slightly open and there is a full moon out during the months of may and june.
