Alright, we all now know the basic release schedule was going to be a theatrical "movie only" release in August with very few special features, and than an SE in November.

Well, The Digital Bits (these guys are never wrong, at least in my experience, they don't report unless they have some real reason to think its true) is reporting that the SE in november will be a..........

4 DISC SET!

:Q:Q:Q

Since the SE should be about a 3 hour and 40 minute cut of the film, I figure it will go something like this:

Disc 1 and 2: The movie itself with both Dolby and DTS soundtracks, and a commentary by Peter Jackson, and probably another commentary by some of the actors.
Disc 3: special features (featurettes, trailers, tv spots, and other miscellaneous things you find for special features)
Disc 4: Documentary on the making of the film, at least 2 hours long

They intended from the get-go to document this film extensively, they hired a crew to do so and the filmed over 800 hours of behind the scenes stuff.

If they continue with this type of release schedule, the final box set would be something like 12 discs! :Q

:D

oh, and...

Two DVDs to rule them all
One DVD to find them
One DVD to bring them all
And in a cardboard foldout case bind them
:D

I am disappointed by the shortness.
What did PJ say his dream cut was? 5 hours?
I keep hoping thye will come out and say the DVD will be his dream cut or longer.

he never said it himself, just other people who worked on the movie did.

our only chance of a super-long cut is to wait until all 3 are out, and even then it looks iffy now. Don't forget that 30-40min extra is still a lot of freakin stuff! :Q

Yes, a lot of stuff.
LOTR really can't be made into a movie.
PJ has done as good a job as I can imagine possible, and still the pacing and timing of the movie are quit right.

I saw the movie over the weekend (it was the only thing a friend was interested in seeing, so off I went).

I wasn't impressed, so I don't think I'll be buying the DVD.

The real question is, can it be topped?
Will someone make a better version one day?

Maybe...but you'll have to wait 20-30 years for it probably.

I hope Criterion can get their hands on this DVD to make their own version. Criterion DVD's are almost always a cut above any other DVD.

damn, looks like I'll be getting a DVD player and a new TV november :D

I'm still waiting for a confirmation of that 5hr version you were talking about. No amount of commentary and behind-the-scenes stuff can top a 5-6hr version of each movie! *drooool*

One Ring to rule them all,

One Ring to find them

One Ring to bring them all...

and in the Darkness bind them.
