AHH I can't connect to steam! Help!

Ok, I just bought HL2 and it installed fine. I installed it using the dual dvd burner drives and I was wondering if there would be a problem with that. It installed fine and when I went to connect to steam it comes up with the update little bar and just hangs there for about 10-15 seconds, then comes back with a message that it can't connect etc.

This is a new system I just built, got all the drivers installed and all, specs are as follows:

MSI k8n neo2 platinum
amd 3500+ winchester
bfg 6800 ultra
dual sata's

and I am connecting to the internet through a d-link dwl-ag530 wifi card. on my older computer I have had no problems with steam at all. Anyone know what is wrong?

steam is having a large problem right now. tons of other people can't connect either. just wait it out, i guess.

damn this is stupid. Yet another reason why having a central auth system is a terrible idea right now.

yeah same problem. tons of other people on other forums having same problem. nice system btw, the game should run beautifully when you can get it connected.

Thanks, I'm glad it's not just me, I thought it might have something to do with my router, firewall etc but I checked those.
