You should NOT open it, you will lose your warranty doing that. Just RMA it and you'll get a new one, what's the big deal?

This is a good thread with some really stupid replies
What I think we all want to know is not which CD drive the guy is
using but which brand of CD you put in it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DOH you people can't see the forest for the trees !!!!!!!!!
SO WHICH BRAND OF CHEAP CDR DID YOU USE????

And to be help as well as anoying.......
I would take both the blank/game/data CD and drive to where ever
you brought the drive and ask for a replacement
In my country, and my supplier, would just replace it with a red face

A normal CD spin rate (even 1x) is extremely high RPM

If 1x is "extremely high RPM," what would you call my 10,000RPM cooling fans??? BTW, I have never seen a glass CD.

As for the original question... If the drive has a "warranty void if removed/broken" sticker on it (which most Lite-On's do have) then just RMA it. If it does not have on, take it apart. It's quite easy.

This also happened to me once in my old Creative 5X DVD. My only option was to open it and get the chunks of CD out, the trray wouldnt eject cause peices got stuck in there and wouldnt let it open that way... a few screws and the metal case comes off... take out the peices and thats it. Its pretty easy.

yeah i have taken some cd-roms apart before but it has the warranty sticker, that is why i wasnt going to do it this time. i have no idea what kind of CDs they are but i bought 2 100 packs because they were 5 dollars each after the rebate (and i got all of the rebates). well there is probably 60 left in my last stack, so i have burned somewhere around 140 cds and none of them have ever done this. they may be cheap but they worked. its ok though im just going to RMA it with newegg.

thanks again for the help everyone

Like the others have mentioned, you shouldn't take it apart because it voids the warranty. But if you can get it open by sticking a paperclip into the manual eject button, you might be able to get the tray open if you haven't been able to get it open by pushing the eject button. Just take out whatever pieces you have in there...because they obviously will be in the way of your testing. Good luck with your call to tech support ;)

And blow >150$?

No way, your lite- on may still work, and if not, he still has a free one coming.
