If you backed up your system state recently, just reinstall Windows over the current installation. Then restore the system state backup and everything will be much the same as it was before.

I did not had a chance to backup the system state...in fact i'm not sure where to do that in win2k anyway. what would happen if i just deleted viaagp1.sys from the recovery console (or just renamed it)?

phew....yep it seems the recovery console was my savior. So for anyone who might need to know in the future.

the viaagp1.sys file was stored in /winnt/system32/drivers, and all I did was rename it and then reboot (into an ugly as 16 color 640x480 environment). The I installed the latest 4-in-1 driver from via's website. YAY!!!
