AHCI vs IDE with SSD

So I played with my system for 2 days trying to get AHCI to work.

The problem I BELIEVE that I'm having is my Lite On SATA DVD drive doesn't work in AHCI. I'm not 100% sure thats the issue, b/c I don't have a newer drive to test. I'm thinking it was a 1st gen. drive that just has an adapter chip in there to convert IDE to SATA, ie: not truly native SATA.

EDIT: After doing more research all morning. I found something of note on an Intel forum: "If using a sata optical drive, connect it to the last sata port." Maybe that was my issue though it doesn't really make sense?

Other components:
P5K-E mobo with latest BIOS
WD 74Gb Raptor (now removed)
WD 640Gb black
Intel X25-M
Lite On SH-17 (don't have the exact model # with me at work)

I was going to attempt to disconnect the DVD drive and install WinXP from a USB drive, but it was too complicated to get it to work. And I was getting impatient.

So after many times trying and having blue screens, no boots, etc.

I decided to just go back to Enhanced IDE mode. :/

Here are the results.

Everything looks ok, right?

Now I think I've heard that the TRIM command doesn't work with out AHCI?
But that doesn't really matter since I'm not using Win 7, etc.
