AHCI questions

hello,

I have a p5k motherboard and I am going to hook up a intel ssd to it via the jmb363 sata controller. Do I need to install drivers during the windows installation for AHCI to work properly or is enabling AHCI in bios all that is needed?

I'm not sure about later SPs, but SP1 XP boot setup could not detect a hard drive in AHCI mode so you would need to install the proper drivers ahead of time.

SP2 can boot off certain AHCI controllers. However the Jmicron controllers are terrible and you'll only get about half speed off of them. Use the ICH controller, or whatever else is on the board.

Thanks for all the information. Now I just need to decide what option to take. I probably will avoid using the jmicron port.
