AHCI post Vista install?

Is it possible to enable AHCI through the BIOS after an install of Vista (64 in this case)? I only ask because the Hackintosh stuff I'd like to dabble in requires it and when I've tried to do it in the past, I get either a "NTLDR is missing" error or a "disk read" error. Strange, right?

I've seen the registry tweak that Microsoft suggested but that's for a different stop screen than what I'm getting. Currently, I can't even get into Vista when I enable AHCI.

You cannot change the SATA controller mode after Vista has been installed. You must set it before installation.

I suppose it might be possible if you could somehow uninstall the driver and replace it with the AHCI version, but I know it's not as easy as it sounds (I've dabbled a bit with it before).
