When setting up a new hard drive in Xp using an Intel chipset X48 should I use the AHCI option or IDE for speed?

AHCI enables command queuing (if the hard drive supports it) and hot swapping. Can't really hurt to enable it.

I believe AHCI is a bit slower than IDE mode for us average users, but i'd need to bench to say for sure.

I like IDE for compatibility with my bootable diagnostics personally...

Doesn't usually with Vista, though for JMicron i believe it does.

i say wait until the next windows version for AHCI. right now it is too much of a compatibility issue.
But if you don't mind wading through them, then go ahead and enable it.
