AHCI and W7 Installation question

I installed W7 on my new system (see specs below) last night.

I then noticed in the Bios for my mobo that RAID defaulted to "IDE". I believe I want AHCI so I can get all the good stuff that goes with it (NCQ, TRIM). So I changed it from "IDE" to "AHCI".

When I booted up after the change, I got all sorts of problems.....it went into a screen where I could ask Windows to attempt a repair. I did. But after 5 minutes of seemingly nothing, I gave up.

My question: should I clear the cmos, set RAID to "AHCI" and then reinstall Windows 7?

I believe W7 has some AHCI compatible drivers so I'm wondering if a reinstall is the answer.

Thanks!

If its not too painful, I would recommend a reinstall. I don't believe there is any need to clear CMOS.

There is a way to switch to AHCI after installing with IDE. It involves some registry editing. However, its never been clear to me whether this method is equivalent to just installing with AHCI enabled or not.
