AHANIX X145-V BLACK D.VINE 4 MEDIA CENTER ENCLOSURE W/ VFD DISPLAY - NO PSU
$149.99 plus shipping (and tax for Californians)
$30 MIR if purchased by 8/31/05
This is a nice looking HTPC case. It uses standard ATX motherboards and power supplies. Exhaust is dual 60mm fans (supposedly quiet, but IMO not as good as larger fans). Case is steel with aluminum face. The nice feature is the VFD display that plugs into the parallel port (IMO I'd rather have a USB header interface). Front is very clean looking.
Newegg has a very similar case:
AHANIX D4 Media Center X232 Black Computer Case
$221 (plus tax to CA/NJ/TN)
-$20 instant savings
-$30 MIR (same as SVC)
=$171
The Newegg version is a different model number but looks to be the exact same chassis and VFD, just with a power supply. Ahanix claims the PSU is quiet, but the sole Newegg review said it was noisy so YMMV.
I was ripping apart a working Pioneer 25CD changer to use as a HTPC case (plus additional LCD or VFD), but bought the $130 one instead. Too bad I already tossed the guts to the Pioneer.
SHIPPING...
The one at SVC is lighter w/o PSU, but I got a few other things in my order and shipping was $16.58 UPS Ground to Wisconsin. Newegg is a fixed $18.99 FedEx Saver. YMMV depending on where you are.
