You said those exact words? If you really do like her, you need to plain out tell her the good qualities about her. Nor just "cool personality" and "decent looking". You need to say something like how you love her personality. Using "cool" in that sort of situation just isn't the best choice. And by saying decent looking, she's probably just gonna think you are saying that because you are her friend and don't want to hurt her feelings. It just seems like your choice of language needs to be more proper and direct

Who cares if you never hook up. You should still give her the admiration you would give any girl, because it builds character, gives you a chance to "practice" ... and the confidence and self-esteem you build up from it will reflect in your overall personality, which will make you that much more attractive to the opposite sex.
