good ol' Winxp... are you enjoying your "experience"?

-Are they in the device list?
-Remove/Add them.
-Reinstall drivers?
-umm... i dunno.
-When you look in the registry for them, are they still labelled?

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

thats for my Acer Cd-rom... what is says in device manager... they just QUOIT working!!

Is this related to the Windows 98 issue of not displaying cdrom drives?

Its usually to do with the slow spin up delay.. and opening my computer/explorer. It shows up after clicking "refresh" though.. otherwise, im lacking in XP knowledge, so i cant help ya there.

Besides, i wont upgrade to XP unless i ABSOLUTELY have to, meaning all the software i need requires it.. otherwise, Windows 98 is fine for me. 🙂

are you using the via 4in1s? if i install them they cause my cd-rom drives to dissapear. try uninstalling them and see if that works.

The same thing happened to me in Win2000 last week after I uninstalled a beta of Easy CD Creator 5. No one here could help me and after wasting a couple of days trying to fix it I gave up and reinstalled everything. This was on a P3 933/i815 based machine btw.

The same thing happened when I upgraded my version of Nero to the latest version in XP.

The painless way I did it was to use the System Restore function to a point before I upgraded to the latest version.

hm.. wheres the restore thing exaclty at under XP.. and how to use... not sure on that never used.. and never backup this system up yet

Happened to me too! I was using Nero w/ a new burner and like I booted back and my CD-Roms were gone!

I just formatted and reinstalled =).. Win XP installs in < 30 min!

Yeah, do you have Adaptec Easy Creator? If so, go to your drives' properties in Device Manager, and see if it says Code 31. Go here for instructions on how to fix it. However, it says it's not supporting XP until 10/25. I don't have XP, so I'm not sure if this fix will work or not. I have 2000, and this registry tweak worked for me.

He said it says code 19...

Did you try removing the drive yet from software?

Uninstall Nero.

How about reinstalling your cd drivers... there has to be a simple thing you are overlooking. Just start the windows help troubleshooting guide. It is pretty helpful.

If you want to try the system restore:

Start/Programs/Accesories/System Tools

System Restore is the last entry in the Folder.
