Often, when dealing with large organizations I get to navigate their blanket rules, rigidly applied regardless of the situation.
For example I just finished filling out the rather long paperwork for vendor sourcing. We worked with a vendor to take advantage of existing relationships (and, importantly, with local contractors) and various buckets of money for service improvements from various organizations. The end result was that instead of $750,000 a year for the service its $130,000 a year for the service. The vendor is one they already have a very long and positive relationship with and the service being provided is better. You would think that would be enough to convince the Department of Purchasing but nope. I'm not sure if its because they don't know IT or what but I now have meetings to tell them they like the vendor, why faster is better and why cheaper is better.
The best part is that this has to be signed soon or some of those buckets of money expire. If they don't get off their asses and respond to emails and meeting requests in a timely manner it will cost them $200,000 a year. Not that the people delaying will suffer any consequences for the delay or anything
