Ah... the housing market. :(

If you're looking in Fort Myers now you definately missed the boat. In the past 5 years prices have changed way way too much. Great for my parents, but bad for anyone that doesn't currently have a place there or for anyone that isn't rich.

Cape Coral is even being built up way too much. You used to be able to get small empty lots in the Cape for a couple thousand and now they're tens of thousands.

The guy living under the bridge on RT 20 over RT 59 wanted $1200 for rent of his refrigerator box 🙁

I'm actually looking anywhere in Lee County. Even places in Lehigh are a little over my budget. Seems like I always miss the boat on stuff. 🙂

Some people I talk to say the prices are going down, but we'll see... I'm just trying to save up enough for a down payment.

Whats with all this age discrimination bs. I hate it too.

That's usually a condition of the city made in exchange for the permit to build the housing. Typically those under the age of 50 cost the city more than double in public services than their older counterparts, while paying the same amount of property taxes. Usually outright age discrimination is illegal, but they get around that by building no more than 2 bedroom domiciles, aimed at an older crowd.

It's all about the tax dollars for the cities.

I was wondering lately: with the insane prices for established houses, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a lot and build a house on it from scratch?

This would be true if I already had the land... but in my area the land prices have rose exponentially also.
