I was on the freeway yesterday on my way home from work when this white minivan just goes flying by. He weaves through traffic ahead while cutting off cars. We take the same exit ramp and he continues his maniac driving through the ramp weaving through the cars. This ramp connects to another freeway with the far right lane being an exit lane for the next exit. Because of the heavy traffic this exit lane gets jammed up as cars try and merge into the other lanes. Well the white van comes down the ramp and cuts into the shoulder and passes up all the cars trying to merge. I get stuck behind the jam but I can see him cut back into the exit lane and merge into traffic as it clears up ahead.

Then bam a white CHP patrol car flies by and goes into the shoulder as well. I think to myself what's his rush? When I get to the clearing ahead I can see the van had already changed to the far left lane with the chp somehow already right behind him. In less than 5 seconds of being behind the van he flashes his lights.

IIRC California actually raised the fine on these types of violations. I guess because of the rising number of people doing this.

The bad part is the asswipe in the van will learn nothing from it.
I thought the drivers in Texas were bad. They have nothing on the morons they give licenses in California.

I'll never forget the first time driving in California... I was thinking WTF - why did a schoolbus full of kids just pass me literally going 80 mph?

fixed. I deal with moron California drivers everyday. I wasn't prepared with the Phoenix.
They think red lights are merely suggestions.

So true. Probably just furthers increase his anger and rage towards police officers.

I drove through Texas not too long ago and had no problems with any of the drivers on the road. All were courteous but as I got closer and closer to CA it got more and more the opposite.

I noticed a lot of motorcycles on the LA freeway driving on the line between the normal lane and the HOV lane .

Splitting lanes is legal but I believe there are some rules on when you can do it. Doesn't seem to be strictly enforced though. I've seen motorcyle cops weave back and forth between the HOV and left lane with no regards to the double solid yellow lines.

I saw something like that a few years back. It was snowing a bit and some "ricer" (civic hatch with a fart can) was swerving in and out of traffic passing people. A minute later I passed them with the front end of the civic buried in the back end of a public transit bus.

I thought that was pretty funny.

Same has happened to me in upstate NY (I-90).

I has just gotten my license and my dad was in the passenger seat. I was going the speed limit in the right lane, and a car blazes past me on the left, dude is on his cellphone and 2 seconds later, a cop blazes past me with lights and pulls the guy over.

"Justice".

Sort of like the drivers in the SF Bay area, when I lived there. Green means go. Yellow means speed up. Red means 5 or 6 more can go through (and don't you dare jump out when your light turns green, or you're almost guaranteed to get t-boned!!).

I guess you never had to deal with the people that drive F-350s or Dodge Ram 3500s that don't have spec of dirt on them down the freeways of Austin or Houston.
All of them feel they have something to prove and don't care that you might actually like to occupy the road space you currently have.

I get the those guys in same truck that call everyone 'brah'. "Born and raised in HB, man! Let's go to Glamis and get drunk, brah!"
They just about race themselves from every stoplight.
Sorry about the localism there, so cal guys would know the HB mentality...brah.

Aren't cops usually in rushes?

Good news that the cop caught the jackass in the act.

When I see people riding the shoulder to avoid traffic, I pull half-way into the shoulder so they can't get by. Fuck 'em. I've seen truckers do the block move many times.

You think they would have done it on CHiPs if it wasn't? ;)

Well at least they got someone on the thruway. It seemed that 85 mph while on a cell phone was normal and the cops didn't care.

I was on the NY Harlem River Drive (southbound) once, getting near where the Right lane must turn Off for the Triboro Bridge.
A lot of drivers do not want to turn and go on the zebra stripes (safety zone) and then try to cut in. I managed to keep one car
from cutting in front, the police saw her on the zebra and ticketed her. That is an area where I know the cops like to watch during the morning rush hours.
