Hey, he put out the fire didn't he? or did I miss something.

Maybe he needed to start jumping around frantically, yelling that there's a fire and head towards the basement, that would have probably made things better 😉

CPA rocks! 😀

Here's an idea...since you know for a fact your dad will not buy new extension cords and you fear for your very life maybe you could cough up a little $$ and take care of the issue? You'll sleep better and the problem will be solved.

Is it a marine (saltwater) tank?

If something jumped and splashed water into unprotected electrical gear, you would get a fire. Been there too many times myself.

I used to have tanks surrounding the entire house. Then I went bigger yet and after spending over $600k into this hobby, I quit. (back in 1999) I kept real sharks as pets.

Now I have a whole bunch of aquatic life support system parts left over including a custom 300A 400Hz electrical system that ran everything.

Cheers!

Got anything interesting for sale?

Most of the stuff would not be suitable for home aquaria! Most people don't have the need to move 550 gallons/minute or generate 1kG of O3 per day!

Cheers!

Can't say I've seen it. Maybe I'll check it out this weekend.

When I worked in a local petshot, we had quite a few tanks, both saltwater, and freshwater. The setup, and electrical was not just the greatest thing in the world, power strips everywhere, along with more cords then I knew what to do with.
For any who haven't had a saltwater tank, or been around saltwater, as the water evaporates, the salt starts to creep, and it will end up flowing down powercords and into powerstrips, resulting in a usually minor shock when you placed you hand in the tank, or when you tried to unplug one of the powercords, or just touched a powerstrip... Luckily no one really ever got hurt, just a minor shock, and you quickly learned how to cut power to a tank without getting shocked, well most of the time.

I want to set my tank back up, but as freshwater, stuck between a nice tropical tank, with lots of plants or an African Cichlid tank.

and to think one day you will be trying to fix the toaster with a fork and butter knife while its still plugged in and suddenly realize "good God i have turned into my father!" have fun trying to kill your son in an electrical fire!

Maybe you should panic a little more. That's sure to help.

If you were smart you'd have done the same thing your dad did.

He knows how he has thoose cords, there are 10 hanging out back there, I have no idea what goes where, hence why I would get him. Not to mention it's his fish, Im not sticking my hand behind a tank grabbing at wires that are on fire with sparks flying.

You could have just poured water on it or if none was available just take a wiz on it...

hmmm. I've got 3 power strips daisy chained together to plug in all my stuff behind my TV. I wonder if that's bad 😀 Of course, only 4-5 items are on all the time. The rest are only on occasionally. I'm sure you'll be reading about me soon in the newspaper!
