Ah, man! My dog is covered with STAIN!!!!!

With the hurricane coming, I put my dog on a lead on my carport. He somehow got into my storage room and knocked over a can of STAIN. His lower legs, chest and stomach are now a nice redwood magohony color. 🙁

What can I do to get it off of him that won't hurt him or irritate his skin? I know people use mineral spirits to get it off there hands, but I don't know if I can use it on him. I'm thinking about putting him in a hot soapy bath and diluting some mineral spirits to about 50% strength and rubbing it on with a rag. My vet is out of town till Friday, so I can't call him.

Help!

I wouldn't worry unless he drank some of it. Think of it as a bad dye job on your old lady it will grow out 😉

Try calling your vet. They might have a suggestion.

If you have to shave him make sure you post pics!

Edit: -1 for reading the full post. Didn't see your vet being out of town. Of course you could always call a different one.

shave..get it outa contact with chemicals. or it licking biting it. super close crop with electric buzz cut thing first

it'll work off in a week or too, probably all over your furniture 😉

you dirty ah heck from the land down under you

I thought you guys were supposed to be jolly? 😀

I'm gonna soak him in the tub and try to get as much as ican off of him.

Per my sister (dog person), never shave a Shepherd - he'll get sunburned really easily, and it takes away protection from heat/cold. Leave the stain on rather than shaving.

lol - mineral spirits as already suggested - hahaa - that sucks man. If not - just wash as much of it out as possible, it'll come off eventually 😛

Pics of Stain covered dog?

I second that, I have a GSD too and I wanna see what a stained one looks like.
Maybe we could start a new stained dog trend 😛 (If it looks cool)

Want to see something stupid? How bout a 125lb German Shepard naked!

I hope I don't have to do this .

What, are the other dogs going to laugh, beat him up and take his lunch money? Who cares if it looks stupid, it'll grow back. It's probably the easiest and safest way to get him cleaned up.

He's a teenager, I hate to stunt his social growth.

I'll try to get pics this afternoon or tommorrow. It's a red mahogony stain, and it actually looks cool. 😛 I still have the "wtf" factor going on since I saw him laying there with it all over him. He's fine, though, running around happily destroying my things as we speak.

If he locked the dog up outside during a damn hurricane I doubt it sees the inside of the house very often.

1.I'm in Alabama. The worst weather we saw was not more than a little wind and a small rain storm.

2.He was in a covered carport, idiot. Are you an infant? Can you not read?

3.He couldn't come inside because my wife's cat just had kittens.

ANYWAY, I cleaned him up yesterday. Phoned a different vet and he told me warm soapy water would probablly do the trick. It got 99% off, and I used a little baby shampoo for the other 1%. He's as good as new. All I have to do now is clean up the mess in the carport. 🙁
