she said "my monitor cable isn't long enough to plug into my hard drive"
i said, "so you need an extension cable so it can reach your computer?"
"no, i want a whole cable long enough to reach my hard drive."
"your computer."
"no, its my hard drive"
"its a computer"
"well thats not how i was taught"

"how long a cable do you need?"
"two feet longer than the one that came with it"
"how long is that, 6 feet?"
"i don't know, you said you could see everything about my order"
"i see your order came with a monitor, it doesn't say how long the cable is. would 10 feet be enough?"
"i don't know, how much longer is that than the current cable"

Haha, I'm sure you bit a hole in your tongue instead of ripping into her.

Different situation but: yesterday, I swapped out a monitor for one of my coworkers. Did it while he was at lunch. I logged him out, logged in as myself and ensured that the desktop was sized right b/c he went from a 17 to a 21". Blah, blah.

So, after I was done, I hit Start/Logoff.

He gets back from lunch: "I can't get into my computer...it's not taking my password." He had not put HIS name in the user box.

and was just sitting trying and trying his little password (which BTW, is his first name

) how typical.

hehehe cute but I've got the day's winner :D

End user at my job calls me,tells me all about how he faithfully uses file find to delete his cookies and keeps his system nice and clean like a good geek should. He actually used the word "geek"

He then goes on to tell me that while using file find that he noticed that many of the files that were pulled up dated back to 1998,he was horrified to have been so remiss in his system cleaning duties... and he deleted them all.

Now the computer won't work right.... when can I come over ?

Ouch, baff, that's just painful. If you find yourself in LA I'm buying you a drink for dealing with that one. :)

if he was cheap and i didnt really care too much about his situation, my solution to restore his system would be to format that baby.

Hahaha, the thought of walking this man thru anything is scary enough to curl my hair, just the process of inquiring about his Win98 cd and COA was painful enough. I told him my rates and what my availabilty is
so we'll see :)

Hahaha, actually to be fair, most end users at my job ask pretty intelligent questions and are very respectful of my time. The sidework potential here is pretty big too, judging by the to do list I've got here
Besides, that system restore will eventually buy me something very nice I'm sure :)
