Ah i need to buy a cheap but good used car

I need to buy myself a car, I would like for it to be under 15k. Um ive looked at auto trader for like a 3kgt and 300zx maybe i could get um but is the 3kgt all wheel drive? then i would also need a really cheap winter car.

Those cars are known to be maintanence nightmares(moreso the 3000gt), and will insanely high to insure for a 16 year old. Not to mention that a n00b behind the wheel will probably kill themselves with that much muscle under the hood.

Buy a brand new Honda Civic LX, Hyundai Elantra GT or Nissan Sentra GXE with full factory warranty.

My father knows the owner of the company who is selling it so i might be able to get a deal. I dont believe its turbo so thats less on the wallet for insurance

currently i drive a 99 tahoe so insurance is high on that too

also my uncle is our insurance rep so ?

I like your guys opinions and have looked for other cars, but i am sorta a sports car/truck dude so yeah not much out there for cheap that looks good

If you want a serious suggestion, look at a Contour SVT. 98.5's and up had 200 HP and handled like they were on rails. Very nice cars. It's four doors, and only has 2.5L of displacement, so it will be fairly gentle on insurance.

It's also FWD so it will still be somewhat driveable in the winter.

i think my grandpa and dad would kill me if i bought a FORD(fix or repair daily) as they both are gm guys and my grandpa worked for gm

but fwd would be nicce for the snowbelt area up here in ohio!

but i think i might be able to tackle a rwd in the winter if im careful plus my dad might luv that car also as hes always wanted a sports car

No other car fits the description of "cheap that looks good" better than the Hyundai Tiburon

The 3000GT VR4 has AWD, but they can be nitemares to keep. I read a story about a guy who replaced his transmission four times. It's a crapshoot, some people don't have problems, others just pour thousands of dollars into repairs.

I love the look of the car and I hope to get a VR4 once I find a job, but I've also accepted that if I were to get one I'm going to have to sink money into it. I don't think a 16 y/o can have that same sort of mindset. Owning a car like that is like having a high maintainance pyscho supermodel girlfriend, great looks and an incredible ride, but an expensive headache to keep. :Q

The nice thing about cars tho is that's it's ok to keep more than one.

You might be the valedictorian with a perfect driving record, but beng a 16yr old male with sports car, there's not much your uncle can do for you, unless he's willing to twist some number.
I would recommend including you and the car under your parent's insurance and just pay them the difference, thats the best way to get better rate. Otherwise, you might have to fork $100+/mo for
insurance.
Having said that, have you considered a used sentra-se-r? Its a peppy sports car with lots of possibility

well here is what i might do if i get the zx

In the winter i will just completely get ride of insurance on it to save some money. Then i will get like a 600-1000$ winter vehicle that is shitty but runnable

with out insurance on the zx in the winter i save myself like 4-5 months worth of insurance!

i gotta call my uncle today and see how much insurance will be

an insurance rep cant do anything, trust me. They could fudge that you have airbags, side airbags, ABS, anti theft device, but the price database is still there.

do what? just get a 4wd truck, you can drive it all year, the insurance will still be cheaper in total than your current plan, and it will be more reliable than riding out the winter in a $1000 POS. you can probably find a 4wd compact truck only a couple years old for 15K.

face it.. like everyone else here has already said-- as much as you want one-- niether the 300gt or 300zx are good cars for you.

get a cheap car now, that will be a good first car that will get your through highschool, and hopefully into college.

then when you have a job, and have money.. get a real sports car that you really like and will really be happy with and that you'll actually be able to enjoy.

instead of a 10 year old sports car that isnt really practical for you, why not a much newer (possibly even new) car taht will be much more practical for you... like a civic or sentra... or if you're really set on something a little more sporty, maybe a yaer or two old Celica or Tiburon.

If you wanted to be reasonible, you'd get a beater for high school/college and save yourself some money.

But if you're deadset on a sports car, get a older Z28 or Firebird (pre '98 w/LT1). They can be had for cheap and that would leave you lots of $ for a beater in the winter.

4WD truck. you've said you're a truck guy. it makes more sense. you'll get a newer truck, with lower insurance. you'll still get laid just as often. just put some big arse tires on it and you're good to go.
