<< Scour trying different kind of Exchange

Clint (aka headstream) was the first to note that Scour.com is apparently shutting down the Exchange tomorrow (that is, Thursday). For those of you out of the loop, Scour Exchange was a Napster-like file sharing client that many folks used to trade materials of a copyrighted nature. Indeed, Scour Exchange proceeded Napster by quite a while, I do believe. When I first saw Scour, more than two years ago I believe, it was basically a SMB transfer agent that hooked you into Windows' file shares around the 'net. You found files using their web search engine, and it was, well, pretty cool. Oh, the good old days.

Of course, the other similarity is shares with Napster is the fact that it's getting tagged team by the Usual Suspects--the RIAA, the MPAA, and the NMPA. This Wired article indicates that the ownership decided that shutting down Exchange would free them of their copyright issues, and pave the way for a company sell off. Scour has already received offers to the tune of $5 million for their business. You can bemoan their unfortunate, yet lucrative failure in Clint's thread-o-lamentation. -Cæsar
