"Numerous studies have documented the negatives of getting high off of weed. Scientists claim that aside from marijuana?s weak association with depression and anxiety, it can cause brain deterioration of ?critical life skills? over time."

Do you guys disagree with these scientists?

I too think that the comparison with alcohol is pretty apt. Abuse anything, and it will turn on you. That holds especially true for mood-altering substances.

I can tell you from first hand experience in the past they are right. But if you haven't used enough to cause any noticeable permanent damage, and you stop, you will eventually be able to put yourself right again. But you don't know where that line is where noticeable permanent damage of some kind will occur. It can be different for everybody. I think you are much more likely to cause some kind of permanent brain or other bodily damage by using alcohol sooner than you are with the MJ. But both of them can cause messed up mood disorders and mental problems, be they permanent or temporary, equally as well.

ditto about the alcohol. And they did try to ban alcohol once, but it's too ingrained into society.

I agree simply by the consistencies in changes of behavior with so many people that I witnessed with my own eyes. No science. Like most of this kind of stuff though, it varies from person to person and science has yet to be able to measure it accurately.

One word: Moderation

reason i am curious is b/c i know some friends firsthand since hschool who have abused this drug for the past 8 years. now in their mid 20s, they are noticeably, without a doubt, slower in the head with terrible short term memory.

Meh, who cared if it messes up your brain, makes you sterile or asexual, lots of legal stuff does the same or worst. I still wouldn't use it cause how people who do use it look/act.

None of the chronic tokers that I know exhibit any of these problems. Their smoking history varies from a few years to a couple decades.

And you know for a fact they haven't dabbled in harder drugs?

If you purposefully use things that WILL kill you then you're a moron. Plain and simple.

btw i agree with the statement based on people who smoke it almost everyday... not someone who does one session every two weeks or a month

I will agree that there is a chance, but my life experience doesn't agree with it being a high percentage of people affected in such a way.

How do people who use MJ look and act? How do you tell? You'd probably be surprised how many people use marijuana that don't act like Cheech and Chong. Because of it's legal and social status, plenty of responsible people have to be discreet about their use.

Would you all consider one session a week (2-3 hits) moderation?

Edit: How about one session every other week?

I'm calling shens on "numerous studies" showing negative affects marijuana smoking. The biggest negatives IMO, are political rather than physical.

I'd say that marijuana suffers from the biggest "smear campaign" in the modern history and that factual, scientific research and data is purposely restricted and suppressed.

I think that the delay between the recreational use and the huge amount of time that it remains in testable quantities in the bloodstream makes it an unfair, insidious tool for law enforcement considering the benign nature of is "high" vs the consequences of a positive "piss test" for freedom controlled users (parollees, probation ect). Absolute Bullshit that smoking a doobie, on your own time....weeks ago.... can cost ANYBODY their freedom.

I don't know about the whole moderation point-Studies have shown that even very light drinking shrinks the overall brain size somewhat. I'm sure marijuana has some sort of effect too, even with just moderate use.

Why would you hurt your brain for fun? It's your brain. It's who you are, and for most of us on this forum-it's from it that determines how successful we are/will be. Go do something else enjoyable.

That aside, I've seen some people get pretty screwed up due to marijuana use. One that's been doing it for 35 years or so- I'm sure he did dabble back in the 70s with harder drugs, but I know the absolute majority of what he's done has been MJ. You can see the lag in his brain whenever he thinks of something. It's like there's..latency.

And of course, there's examples of people my age who have done it for a few years or more, and you can just see them deteriorate mentally. All for a high.
