Now this may sound like an even stupider question, but can I run an 8x AGP video card in a 4x AGP slot?

Yes, but it will only run at 4x of course.

There is almost NO performance difference running at 8x AGP though.

i.e. My 9700 pro worked in my 845PE chipset mother board at 4x. Now that I have a 875p board it runs at 8x.

Thanks. I was worried about the performance difference it would bring.

AGP 8x is actually more like a marketing term because it brings little difference but widely displayed as a big feature

some motherboards are specific about the voltage tho so check that first for example AGP 2x is 3.3v but 4x is 1.3 it hink
