AGP x800xl

just to let you all know, at my BB, we got x800xl AGPs in today. i didnt even think they would make them in AGP. bad news? $349

I don't know if I'd consider that "bad" news- it's comparable to 6800GTs the day it comes out? A better launch price than the PCIE ones had.

sapphire x800xl's are at newegg for 309, has a cooler like the powercolors as well instead of the tiny fan

PCIe X800 XL's were @ MSRP at launch ($299) at BM stores.

Well, they were @ MSRP when they arrived @ B&M stores, but they arrived a couple weeks later than they did @ online stores. So, it's hard to say when the launch was I guess.

I am happy with my ATI X800XL though, so it is a nice card @ $300.

@ 350, I'd probably go for a 6800GT

-D'oh!

6800GT and X800XL will sell for the same price real soon. You can already find 6800GT AGP for $300 new.

Is that true? I've never heard they only have 8 pipelines on the AGP, doesn't really make sense, especially at 349. Also, I was at BB yesterday and saw one for 299. Don't know if it was mistagged as the PCI-E by mistake, and I was surprised to see it. Now I've just gotta wait for CompUSA to get it so I can trade my 9800 pro in. Assuming it DOES have 16 pipes.

You must have the AGP XL confused with some other card - it's using the same 16 pipeline R430 gpu as the PCI-e model. Just check reviews/articles or even the Newegg product info page. And I don't think the 6800nu would "e faster" either.

How does the 800XL stack up to the 6800GT? I was under the impression they were not making an AGP version of the card so I didn't bother to compare them closely and ordered a 6800GT the other day to replace my 9700pro.

Just picked up one of these cards at the local BB.

I think the reason for the $350 price tag is the VIVO option that's on these cards.

a 6800gt would be a better buy...you can OC it alot, to ultra speeds, which is nice...it also has SM3.0 support, where as x800 cards don't, so that's always a plus.

VIVO helps soften the higher price caused by the Rialto chip and the corresponding PCB rearrangement. VIVO alone isn't worth $50, as you can buy a whole tuner with hardware MPEG2 encoder for close to that.

Is the card huge like in Beyond3D's review, or does it look to be about PCIe XL size?

pcb board is definitely larger than the PCI-E version and requires a 4pin molex power connector from the psu.

picked up one of these to play with since my local bb had them priced incorrectly at 249.99 and they honored it 🙂

will see how it oc's once I do a clean install

The AGP X800XL has the full 16 pipes and the reason for the $349 price tag is that is the MSRP on the units as they are PCI-E parts using the ATI Rialto bridge chip which costs something, therefore the increase in price. Performance is unaffected versus the PCI-E offering.
