AGP video slot compatibility

Hi guys,

I was looking at a review of this board: Elitegroup Photon AF1 Lite (VIA KT600) at Digital-Daily.

And it said it's 4X/8X compatible. I have a 2X card - does that mean I have to buy a new card if I want to use this board?

You can use slower AGP cards on any higher speed AGP slots.
Usually the other way around (8x card on a 4x mobo) would work, too.
In this case the bandwidth will be limited, though.

Your card most likely won't work with that board because you probably have a 3.3v card that is keyed differently so it won't fit in the slot. If you do have a 1.5v 2x card then I would suggest checking with ECS to find out if that board will support 2x 1.5v cards.

thanks guys. I asked ECS, but they wanted me to give them a buncha information from the motherboard (assuming I'd purchased already), so I don't think they'll give me an answer.

I found this link from ATI

http://www.ati.com/support/faq/agpchart.html

I have an Microstar-8815 Pro card (that's what it says on the card). And from what I can see, it's keyed like the Universial AGP per the ATI page.

If I'm reading this page right, I'm ok no matter what AGP slot theboard has?

If you look carefully at the form, only about half the spaces have to be filled in. I asked the same question about the k7s5a, and the answer was yes, I could use a 3.3 or 1.5 volt card in that board. It took them about 12 hours to respond.
