You'd count anything as a win for NV.
You can't count soft shadows as a "win" for NV, especially considering that they are ugly and make the game unplayable in most resolutions.
IMO you can't count SM3 tests as "wins" for NV as they're synthetic and very few games use SM3 anyways.
I'm sure if you customized settings, ATI would win every test. Case in point, if you turn on AA on both cards, ATI wins more tests than without.

from looking at most of the reviews, the GS barely edges out the xt but has a definite advantage with the feature set.
However, you are neglecting the FACT that for the ENTIRE last month you could get an x850xt for $200. i did and i am sure glad i did not wait for the GS.
Here's the deal:
- both cards perform around the same
- a week ago the X850XT was $200
- right now the 7800GS is $350
IMO you would have to be crazy to spend almost double for an equally performing part at a LATER DATE. The last time I checked, video cards were the fastest-depreciating component in a system. To pay $350 for what is essentially an X850XT w/ SM3 at this point is insane IMO.
Here's the REAL deal:
-Yes they perform about the same
-Last week, a year ago...means nothing TODAY!
-7800GS is NOT $350, it's going anywhere from $307 to $329 @ respectable e-tailers (this boggles my mind that you post $350 concidering you posted in my thread about the $307 7800GS @ MWAVE)
We live in the HERE and NOW, not yesterday nor last week! As of now, a 7800GS is $70 to $80 cheaper than an X850XT and performs about the same.

No, I'm saying I'd rather pay ~$220 for a 7800GT, and another ~$100 for a quality motherboard. I wouldn't buy either of those cards for anywhere near $300 let alone $330, $350 or whatever.
Actually I'm still using AGP. I would upgrade if the price was right. But for that much coin, it makes more sense to get a new system.

As for your question, the answer is no. I actually think that 99% of the X850XT's are gone and discontinued, making them a bad deal now that the sale is over. That said, the 7800GS is one of the worst deals I have ever seen on a new videocard. The people that pimp a card like this make me scratch my head and go "AEG?".

$200 is the most I would pay for an AGP card. Thought about getting a X850XT from Microcenter but passed since I was generally satisfied with my 9800 Pro. For people who have older cards, the "real deal" agp card remains the 6600GT.
If you want better than that (at a reasonable price), wait for a deal, buy a used videocard, or get a PCI-E motherboard/new videocard

Agreed. For NW P4 and the XP crowd, a 6800GS or 7800GS is not a bad option given some of the posters situations that are considering them. The X850XT for gaming only, was a great deal for 2 bills, but for everything else the others surpass it easily. Had I still my Barton-M@2.5ghz SoundStorm system, I could drop in a 7800GS, overclock it, and have a competent gamer again. If it turns out you can get good odds on unmasking more of the GPU later, even better. The place where it differs from the X850, is that along with SoundStorm, the 68/7800GS will also make a very nice MCE boxen, particularly if/when the H.264 acceleration shows up. That would make it a usuable system for years to come.
If you are vid card myopic and gaming is the only factor, then the X850 was the best thing going. However, if you want more from your old AGP system, then either nV card becomes more attractive. P4HT crowd is even getting a few bones thrown their way with SMP game opts, so maybe that $200-$300 CPU they bought years back is the best hardware investment they made
Given the mutlimedia strength of it v. sktA, NW P4HT users, may have the most reason to keep their platform the longest? Maybe it is me but this 7800GS isnt very interesting for an AGP user like myself. If it was a 20 pipe design then I may bite. But a 16 pipe design for 300 bucks doesnt make sense to me when I can grab a more powerful card for 50 bucks. Granted I would have to get a new MB + CPU but for me when I do these builds, I hope they last more than 12 months. I dont see how this card will last more than 12 months for me with the expected lineup of games coming out this year.

If Circuit City can sell it for an everyday price of $299, it seems reasonable to be able to find it at least 10% off fairly soon. Maybe even 20% or so if you follow the hot deal forums
