Just a quick basic question for you guys, as I want some opinions. I have 6800GT right now since my motherboard only has a 8x AGP slot. I am debating on whether or not I should buy a ATI x850XT Platinum just so I can max out this system. Should I do this, or no?

Thanks in advance for your help =)

I wouldn't. I have a 6800GT myself and I'm planning to hold onto it until I buy a (much faster) PCI-E card. I don't think you'll really see that dramatic of an improvement to warrant the cost...

My advice is to buy a PCI-E board such as Epox 9npa ultra and a 7800GTX to see some major improvement. Or you can get a a ASrock ULI motherboard which has both PCI and AGP. Get that board, keep your card and upgrade when you have enough to get a 7800GTX or GT. Going from 6800GT to X850XT Platinum is not worth it in my opinion.

Or you can buy nothing now and buy everything together later on.

Hey raildog why do you like the epox mobo and are there any reviews out there that back this board up? Personally I plan on building a MSI K8N NEO4-F for someone.

THANKS

I ordered my Epox board based on the review at Anandtech, the customer reviews and the overall board features and performance. For all these reasons, the Epox is the best. Plus its price is among the best. The MSI board was one of my choices along with Asus, whom I like. But the MSI seemed to have a few problems associated with it and has a inconsistent overclocking rate.

The Asus A8N-E Ultra is not Asus's top board and has a fan which has a reputation for failing. I could of course get a replacement fan, but still. Also, the Epox seems to be a better overclocker than this. The DFI was my other choice, but its higher power consumtion and its picky nature led me to the Epox. I also don't plan on water cooling in the near future, or getting Redline memory. So for those reasons, the Epox seemed better.

raildogg can you show me that review?

A lot of people said Anandtech did give it a nice review, but also a lot of people have problems with this board. But actually I should of said, look hard enough and you'll find just about any board out there with problems for someone.

THANKS
