I don't recommend keeping your video card and memory. I know it sucks to switch to all new components, but you're going to have to do so sooner or later. Core 2 Duo is the way to go, nowadays, but there aren't any decent boards that support Conroe and AGP. I recommend the following, instead...

Core 2 Duo E6300 (this baby should get well beyond 3GHz)
Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 (folks have been recommending the 965P-S3, instead, but the 945P-S3 offers almost identical features, performance and overclocking potential for $35 less)
Patriot Signature Series 512MB DDR2-667 (this is pushing the lower limit, I know, but you can double your memory later and use the money you save now to upgrade to the new platform)
Biostar V6202EL63 GeForce 6200 LE (this is also pushing the lower limit, but it should allow you to play most games, albeit on lower settings, until you have money to get something mainstream)

TOTAL PRICE AFTER SHIPPING: $368.51.

The above is the exact same upgrade I plan to get after Christmas--probably the first week of January. It should work for you, too.

I'm assuming he doesn't have enough money to get a decent processor *and* a decent video card. The 6200 LE would be a temporary solution allowing him to switch platforms. Anyway, a 6200 is fine if you're like me and you don't play games.

As it turns out, though, it may not matter. I think he's from Pakistan, and I have no idea what prices are like over there.

You might want to get another 512mb stick of ddr 400, because the 2x256mb sticks are slowing down you're memory performance.
